Problems with a C4

I just bought an 1976 Ford F100 about a week ago. Tranmission started slipping really bad in drive. If I put it into first or second it seems to work well. The problem seems to be starting in drive or changing it to drive going down the road.
We took it out and found some bad clutches, and replaced them. Put everything back in and still have the same problem.
One thing I do know is I have to get a kickdown bar for it, cause it is missing.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Did you replace seals, rings and gaskets along with the clutches?

Maybe the bands need to be replaced/adjusted.

Well if you replaced those parts it either needs something else or you screwed up on assembly.

Without knowing what or how you did it any diagnosis is futile.

It could be ruptured seals, seals that are too small, valve body gaskets.

The list goes on and on.
Take it out and start over.

Thanks to the both of you. I finally found another C4 today. I am going to buy it. Then when I have the time, I am going to rebuild my C4 and put it back in.

If you ask why I will put it back in,it is because it is the original one that came with the truck.
