I need some help guys!!!! I have a dana 44 in a 79 shortbed, with 3.50 gears and have new 4.10 waiting to go in!!!! Is there any way the 4.10 will work with my current locker and or carrier???? I bought another carrier not knowing the locker was in the housing!!! I heard that you can buy a spacer or something to offset the difference??? Please help out asap if all possible!!! I know some has had this trouble before!!!! I just hate to drop another $400 on another locker unit!!! Thanks in advanced!!!!
Searching "dana 44 carrier" gave this as the very first link: Info. The carrier break for the Dana 44 is between 3.73 & 3.92. The 4.10 gears will not work with a carrier that works with 3.50 gears.
What locker unit do you have? If it's a full carrier type, such as a Detroit Locker, rather than a "lunchbox" type locker, such as a Lock-Right, then it will have the same break as the carrier - 3.73/3.92. If it's for 3.73 and down the 4.10 gears wont work with it. If you just purchased it, the best bet might be paying some shipping if necessary and asking for an exchange from where you purchased it.
