Fuel Additive in 7.3??

I run additive in every tank on my 6.0L and have been on the 7.3L as well. I know the benefits of using the additive in the 6.0 but are they the same for the 7.3? I would think they are especially when using ULSD. But I just want to know for sure.

Thanks,

JB

Not a problem. Most of us use either Stanadyne or Power System's Diesel Kleen, some use the Redline product. If you search for "fuel additive" in the 7.3 forums, you'll find tons of discussions on it. General concesus is that it's defintely worth it! I use the PS Diesel Kleen myself, but am wanting to try a couple more for comparisons.

I tried both, the Stanadyne and the Diesel Kleen. Really didn't notice a difference.

I've used Stanadyne for years, but recently tried Howe's. I got a 1/2 mile jump in MPG, plus the bottle is a heavier plastic that comes with a lid that doesn't leak.

Motorcraft!

I used the Power service (Gray Bottle) in the 6.0 for almost a year and didn't really notice much difference. So I was going to try the Stanadyne but before I ordered it I bought some of the Motorcraft additive at the dealership and I have been using that ever since. It really works well in the 6.0 I haven't had the 7.3 long so I can't say for sure but I think it is working well in it too. They seem to idle smoother and run a lot cleaner (less smoke) when I use the additive. Supposed to be good for the injectors and motor too (less carbon) so I will continue to use it. The Motorcraft additive comes in a 20oz bottle cost about 6 bucks and treats 125gallons..

Thanks for the replies guys,

JB

CptSD, what's the Motorcraft additive you've been using? I've been thinking of
trying Schaeffer's Diesel Treat, but can't find a local dealer.

It's the stuff the Ford dealership sells from the parts counter. Clear bottle with red label. They have one with a blue label too that has the anti-gel agent in it. Living in AZ I don't have much need for anti-gel. I'm sure somebody makes this stuff for MotorCraft and they put their label on it as "Designed for the Power Stroke" I wish I knew who though...But even from the dealership it is reasonably inexpensive (surprisingly enough) so I'll keep getting it there and using it.

Good luck,

JB

I use Schaefer's Diesel Treat. Like it a lot. I noticed about .5-1mpg increase over Diesel Kleen.
