problem with blowing through the wrong vents.

on my 85 when i turn the a/c or heater no matter what vent setting i have it on, the panel vents always blow. i don't have much pressure at the defrosters where i need it because it is blowing through the main vents too. is this a door problem. the vacuum diaphram is working up and down.

Look under the hood on the passenger side, and make sure your vacuum supply hose is connected and in good shape.

ok. it looks as though a cable could be connected to the vent selector because there is a mount for one but i can't find one. the diapram that is right behind the radio works when switched.

i checked, everything is good. the diaphram under theh hood by the blower motor works as well. is had to be a broken door or something. but is there a missing cable or what.

There is a cable for the temp control, but this picture does not show a cable connected to the other lever.

Here's a picture of the one without A/C. It does use two cables.

i fixed it. i tore the dash apart today and found that the door that closes the defroster and main vents was broken off the hinges. i did some good rigging and used my soldering iron to melt 4 holes. 2 in the ducting and 2 in the door. i then used zip ties as hinges and it works great now.
