Roll Bar

I bought one and have it in my '85. I like it, though I fortunately haven't put it to the ultimate test! (I just installed the roll bar or, in their words, the "Interior Tube Bar", not the cage kit.) A couple of notes..... shipping ain't cheap - I paid around $100.00 (I really wanted it ), and although the ad says you don't need to remove the top to install it, it fit so close (w/ in 3/4" to 1") to the ceiling that I saw no way around taking the top off. Once in, I found that the two "legs" - the pieces that angle back and bolt to the inner wheel houses, were bent inward by an inch or so too much, which we were able to overcome by using a bottle jack and a 4"X4" to jack them out and against the wells, where we bolted them down. Another note - I can't take off the top without unbolting the bar and moving it back a couple of inches. Should you install one, DO NOT bolt it down until you've reinstalled the top. Again, the clearance is so close that you won't be able to install the top attachment bolts along the ceiling arch. (Once this is done, you can move the bar forward and bolt it down. Reverse the procedure to remove the top). Hope this helps with your decision and/or installment.

Roll Bar

just a little tid bit......i just left out the top 3 bolts on mine (for the top)...i have heard of a lot of people having leak problems, but i've removed and reinstalled my top many times without the 3 bolts, never had a problem *knock on wood*...with leaks.....just my little 2 cents

That's good to know! Thanks for the info. I considered it (I hate having to go back and do the same work over again!), but I was too afraid of the leakage. If I ever get to the point of wanting to take my top off regularly, maybe I'll engineer a fix, or shorten the rollbar (though not too much :-) !)
