compressor tank ?

I am wanting to add some volume to my compressor. I am wondering what I can use for a couple of extra tanks. One or two 100 gallon tanks would be nice. Any suggestions on what I can use?

Use only a vessle rated for compressed air. Do Not use an old beer keg, propane tank, water tank or anything made of PVC. While they all may be rated for the pressure, they are not made to tolerate the expansion/contraction cycles that an air compressor generates when it starts and stops with a reletivly wide differential. These fluctuations cause work hardening in the materials used in the construction and will eventually lead to its destruction with a big bang.

Those tanks mentioned by Steve also do not have the corrosion allowance in them required for compressed air.

Wizzard where did you find that tank at, a train yard?

Thanks for the tips on not what to use. A propane tank is the first thing that came into my mind.

So what ever I use it needs to be rated for compressed air?

Right on thank you. Any other ideas where I might find something that would work.

Some scrapyards may have discarded compressor tanks. Garage sales may have dead compressors for sale. Some of those garage sale items can be fixed easily also. Around here we have clean up days that can reveal a surprising amount of "loot".
