So I replaced my upper, lower and degas radiator hoses, drained the cooling system (including the two back block plugs), flushed with the prestone kit. I put plain old Fleetguard back in mixed 50/50 with distilled H20. Also mixed in a pint of DCA4, which I assume I'll need to add more of, but want to test with strips before I go too nuts with it.
Anyway, I take it for a test drive. Everything looks good, no leaks or anything. I pull over after a couple miles and everything still looked good, degas bottle level hadn't changed either. Drove some more at around 45 MPH for a few minutes and noticed my dummy temp gauge creeping higher than I'd ever seen it. Started getting freaked out a little when the needle hit the "A" and pulled over to check things out. Everything looked good, but the degas bottle level had dropped a good bit. I cracked the Prestone flush kit T and the degas bottle, closed them and jumped back in.
All of a sudden the temp guage went back down to where it usually sits, around the N and it stayed there for the rest of my travels (about 20 min).
Was it just a weird bubble or something that caused the guage to go up so much? Just curious.
Yep, just a bubble, Sounds normal, I takes a while for the thermostat opening. Once open it 'burps' the system and you see a drop in the de-gas bottle. You should be go to go now.
