what's involved . . .

in changing a thermostat? 98 ranger 2wd 2.5 4cyl 5spd

from reading other post i've figured out that it is in the plastic housing that hold 2 coolant sensors and where the upper radiator hose.

but how many bolts hold it down?
how hard is it to get to said bolts?
is there any of ford's booby traps that i should be aware of?

any other tips would be much appreciated

Thanks
Guy

I dont know of any reason for it to be any different than any other motor. It should only be 2 bolts holding the thermostat housing in place, not counting th hose its self. Nothing else should be attached. There may be things that are close to it. Like on my motor my temp sender its about an inch or 2 underneath that spout, but nothing's attached. There shouldnt be any real trick, unless you consider not spilling coolant on your motor a "trick".

I usually bleed off a couple of quarts of coolant into a pan using the bottom stopcock on the radiator. Afterwards, I just re-ad it through a funnel and coffee filter. It'll keep coolant from burbbling up onto the intake.
