The flange on the transfer case which the rear drive shaft bolts to has some play in it. I can move the flange in and out of the transfer case about 1/8". It appears to be loose when it is out, but when I push it in the 1/8" it appears to be seating itself. It move from 1/4" out and can be pushed 1/8" in. I removed the drive shaft, and the nut holding the flange on was loose so i'll replace it, but even with it tightened up there is still some play. Is this amount and type of movement normal or acceptable?
Thanks for the info. I probably will leave it be for now, but if you notice there is oil from something sprayed above it. but there doesn't seem to be any fresh oil on the flange or the u-joints. Oh well it's driving now so I wont go screwing that up.

Yeah the oil or dark area above the case or yokes is very normal, all my trucks had or have that. It is normally caused from the spinning of the yoke and u-joints at speed then the grease heats up and literally sprays a fin mist or gobs of grease onto the bottom of the truck.
It it is really leaking, gravity would have taken over a long time ago and the bottom of the case, etc would have oil on it.
