I have a question for all. When I first start my truck it fires right up. About 10secs after it starts running, it bogs momentarily then snaps right up and idles perfectly. I have been reading some of the Ford Bulletins from the past that address what I think is my concern. It talks about adjusting the arm on your turbo so you dont get that lag, or bog down as I call it. Has anyone done this, or had this issue? Thanks, Mike.
Your 97 F350 does not have a wastegate. Could be a couple of things. First thing I'd check would be fuel pressure, 2nd would be the HPOP.
Sit tight, I'm sure others that know a heck of a lot more than me will be here soon!
I am sorry to ask this but where would it be located? I am still navigating my way through the maze of terms and locations. I think I know where it is but not sure. I really need a book to sort all this stuff out.
No problem, The Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) is located on the right side of the fuel filter housing. I believe this unit is brass. The vaccum switch is located on the side of the FPR. It has a wire going to it (I can't remember the color off hand). To remove it, it takes a 1 1/16" wrench I believe. You can't miss it.
I would just check and make sure everything is tight. When my vaccum switch went out it was leaking between the metal and the plastic piece. It was leaking pretty good.
Thats where I'd start. The fuel system is pushing out air/fuel somewhere along the way. Do you hear a big "woosh" sound when It bogs down? I doubt it's the HPOP.
I think 250turbo is right.
EBPV- exhaust backpressure valve
in the exhaust outlet of the turbo there is a butterfly valve that restricts the exhuast and is used to aid in warm up during cold weather. it proofs itself at every startup. closes then opens right back up. easy test is to unplug it. bolted to the intake side of the turbo is a 2 wire connector. its right near where the intake tubing connects to the turbo. unplugg that connetor then start the truck up and see what happens. Many times this valve and the exhuast back pressure sensor malfunctions and this valve will close while driving down the road thereby rendering your awesome truck into a smoke blowing 10 MPH road block! not fun. anyway unplug it and see what happens. if it every messes up unplug it and forget it. it doesn't really help much in my experience.
Devious honey, and 250 turbo are right on, I had the same issue to the T when it is real cold the EBPV may get a little over zealous when you let off the gas too, unplug it and your problem will be solved
If you have a problem with your EBPV and it is sticking say half way closed or something when you un plug it does that mean it will just open rite up or is there a way to make for sure that it is all of the way open?? Thanks
Pulled the plug on the Turbo epbv and BOOM, no more bogging problem. I assume that it is OK to leave this disconnected indefinately? Thanks for all the tips as always!!
