Bed extender question?

I was running my route in a neighborhood and came across a new bed extender that someone was throwing away. I made sure the people were getting rid of it and it was ok to take it with me. I thought it would be nice to have an extra one incase mine was ever stolen or whatever. Only one problem now. It does not fit. It's the same height but shorter than mine. How can I tell if it fits a sport trac or step side?

Umm...is the width the same? The bed of the Sporttrac is not the same width as the F series. Could you have one from the 97-03 trucks?

It's the exact same as mine. It's just shorter from end to end. From bracket to bracket.
