I keep seeing on here that all our trucks were prewired for all the options. I am trying to install doors with power windows/locks from a 1990 F-250, and I can't find any plugs or wires on my truck that look like they would work. I was expecting to possibly find a different style of plug, but I cant find anything. I will be removing most of the dash stuff when I swap in my clutch pedal assembly, am I likely to find the plug tied up to something inside, or has this myth been disproven?
From what I have been hearing, there is no blanket statement you can make that every truck is pre-wired for everything. And sometimes part of the wiring is there, sometimes it's not, depending on what the accessory is. You may have a hot wire hanging somewhere to power the windows and door locks, but you may not have the wiring that crosses over from door to door. I would also check the fuse box to see if it has any provisions for the windows and doors.
I deal only with the 82-86 trucks and have installed these in several trucks. I have never seen an 82-86 that was pre-wired.
You will have to remove the harnesses from a truck that has power windows and locks. It's pretty simple and straight forward. The harness runs under the dash pad. Simple to remove, simple to install. I change the power source for the windows from the "key on" source to the battery "constant on" source in the fuse box when I install them. Makes life easier!
Good luck!

I acually installed the harness in my 86 today for adding power windows. I had to take it out of the donor that I got the doors from. As far as I know they didnt start the prewiring stuff until 97 there the first ones I've ever seen it in but they may have started earlier
I just finished putting power windows and door locks in my 86 f-350 crew cab. I have a donor bronco I got a lot of the parts from. Mine was not prewired and I just made my own wire harness for the whole thing there was not power windows or door locks as a option for a crew cab in 1986. I can say now it can be done but not a easy task. The most useful information I can tell you is this, If you have a donor vehicle you can get the power from the fuse panel by pulling the fuse panel from the donor and take out the factory wires to run your options with. there will be two one for the auto door locks and another for the windows. As you may know there has to be two because you want the locks to work all the time and the windows to work only when the key is on or in the accessory position. The best benefit is they will be automatically on a fuse if you do it this way. good luck with you project.
I have made some progress, I removed the dash in the 90 and found the harness for the PW/PL, it's one separate harness, that simply plugs into both doors and has a little 2 wire plug for power. I am not sure my fuse box has the provision for PW/PL, so I am gonna hard wire it to the battery with a 30A circuit breaker like the diagram shows. I do however have one question. The 2 wires from the 90 harness are BLK/WHT and LT BLU/BLK. My diagram shows the BLK/WHT wire as being power, but doesn't show the other wire or a ground anywhere. Is it safe to assume the LT BLU/BLK wire is the ground? I would rather ask and sound stupid, than assume I know and fry something.
