Just wondering what was you quick mechanical fix on a automobile
Yesterday I had a dousey expierence.
My 1969 has been running fairly well for the past 3 weeks, however yesterday I had engine trouble.
On wednesday night- truck ran beautiful
Thursday morning- truck started well and ran well for several blocks but was then running like the carberator was flooding, was smelling leaking or unburned fuel, but was still running decent but not too decent LOL. I got to my job, saw the carb was dry, all six pistons obviously had the wires hooked up to.
Thursday at noon- Truck started fine, and ran fine for a bit but as I drove got worse, started smelling unburned/leaking fuel and eventually it got to the point were the engine would not handle 3rd gear and stutered in secound, so I found a place on 16th to pull over, with the truck still running I opened the hood and found my distrubutor cab, rotating bouncing and jiggling.
So obviously a minute later back on the road runnin great.
I am still amazed however, how that 300 6cyl. motor was still running.....
I love 300's.
I can`t remember anything that fast.
I can recall a burnt/faulty coil wire on my 88 Cobra. It would`t start one day and when I checked the wire it fell apart in my hand, acouple of minutes later I got it running fine again by replacing the wire.
Actually ya, very reliable and gets 22-24 mpg. and at 20mph doing a turn there is enough torque don't even have to take it out of 3rd.
I really do like my 300 over my 239, the 300 is a perfect motor design. And I drive her hard, hence not down shifting, most of time I do but sometimed ity'll do a turn in high gear.
If I blow up all my 239s a 300 will take there place ASAP.
No that whole still driving it with my distrubutor cap unhinged, impressed the heck out of my, that 300 is tough as nails, didn't use a drop of oil neither and starts up like a cracker jack.
The 239's were supposed to be tough as nails and torquey litle putters but that 300 wow.
So let me state this VERY clearly, if I HAD to swap out a flathead or a Y block my first and ONLY choice would be a 300 6 cylinder motor.

I remeber Sherm saying his 96 had one too that he liked.
The 300 did have the longest production run (for trucks atleast, from 1966-1996)
FYI 302's were 1969-1996 (but not offered in all models of trucks)
if its powered by Ford, its good. the 300 in this 80 i might buy, guy ran it without oil for about a month, that was last year, thing runs just fine. you definetly can' knock them, not even chevy guys

Good info. I always just figured the 302 was introduced in the mid 70's in the trucks!
