I don't have much experience with Excursions, but axle wrap is common on the Superduties. The longer leafs on the 08's seem to have cured this so far anyhow. More grip with wider tires makes it worse. The Fabtech pivoting traction bars eliminate this on the SD's.
Sure Excursion do! In fact, it is worse!! That's why you see that little half spring with the rubber nub on it. That is supposedly suppose to prevent axle wrap. All it really does is change the spring from a U-shape to an S-shape over time.
Axle wrap, BTW, is common on all the solid axle trucks that have long blocks or soft springs.
I just put F350 springs & took the top overload off & the block under it.I also put W codes in the front & it was worth 2 1/4" all around & ride perfect.I am trying to decide if I am going to add 1 or 2 short springs left from rear ones to level it off some. The rear still sits 2" higher than the front as before.I was running 315/75/16 tires before & now with light inner finder touchind lifgtly in the left fender only.
I was wondering if I got F-350 leaf springs and put them in place of the Excursion leafs, would it lift it any higher?
I put Us in the front and As in the rear. Front went up by 1.75 inches and rear went up by 0.25. However it feels a lot stiffer WITHOUT the radius rods. Can't wait to have the RR on and see
I had to put the F350 blocks which were about 3.5 inches (up from the 2.25) to jack it up and preserve the rake it had.
I f you are looking for a small lift, I went with the Donahoe 2in. spring pack in front and just put the f350 blocks in the rear. Now it sits 1 in. higher in rear since I believe the 350 blocks are 1.5 in. taller then ex blocks. I just put 305s with eagle wheels. Now it sits just perfect.
mike, i wish i could do that, but mines 2wd. So it seems w and b codes are the way to go. Also will this add capacity like when you towing (the rear end won't squat as much)?
