DP 120hp question

DP 120hp question

Ok, I have a DP with 60/80eco/120 settings . My truck runs great on the 60 and 80 but on the 120 it seems I get surging at full throttle. Not from a stop but if I floor it staring off at about 20mph it starts huffing smoke. i do get smoke in the 80 and 120 settings. Looks about the same amount too me but only the surging on the 120. Any opinions or ideas. This is my first PSD and my first turbo engine. Its a whole new way of thinking

What type of intake and exhaust mods have you done? I am thinking too much fuel and not enough air but not knowing your other mods it is hard to tell.

Is it surging between shifts? If it is it may be the turbo the turbo. A common fix would be a new compressor housing or a WW.

He should have plenty of air...

Gonna say it could be your engine defueling because of overboost but saw you have the eliminator so that blows that theory unless its not working right.

Everything I read says that besides turbo mods I have it good to go for this setting. I dont use it very much. usually I stay in the 80econo for best overall. It just seems like it falls on its face on the 120. I do have the overboost elim but I do get the engine light sometimes when i get on it hard but not at the same time as the surging.

Compare gauge reading between the 80 and 120, you might catch something there..

I would bet your HPO is dropping off, if ya pull the codes you will see a P1211... Not much you can do with that... Live with it, buy dual HPOP's or have Jody turn down the ICP a bit....

I think you may have just found the supply limits of the HPOP.

Damn... That's going to be my next addition. I was wondering what would happen with the 120 setting. I have basically the same mods you do.
