I need to access the lone speaker in the dashboard in my 78 Bronco. How to I take off the part of the dash that I need to take off? ;-) Or does it all come off together?
I've tried taking out the few screws up near the windshield, and I took out the glovebox trying to get to the wiring for the speaker / radio antenna, for the record.
Thx 2 million for any help! =)
A 19 yr. old novice who
dreams of being a Ford pro,
Had a wonderful '78 and should know exactly what to tell you but, I can't!
I would suggest that you will have to get to the speaker by removing the radio first and probably working from under the dash. If I remember correctly I just cut the wires loose to the dash speaker and mounted speakers on either side of the body behind the front seats. (Right in that big metal panel)
I kind of just got mean with it and grabbed the speaker from way over by the glovebox area and pulled it over to where I could work with it. (thx to Ford for puttting enough wiring to the speaker to allow for this)
Turns out the speaker is blown and needs a replacement... the stock '78 radio still works! Now all I need is to mount a CD player / cassette deck along with a CB radio underneath the dash by the gear shifter and I'll be set!
Mike:
You pull out the radio and work through that opening to get to the center dash speaker. Helps to have some really short screw-drivers, as I recall.

Would you care for a Jpeg file of HOW TO R & R a radio and speaker from the Shop Manual?
Yes, that would be a great help! Although I know I ought to really put priority to saving up a little bit and just buying a shop manual (although I've bought 2 others for other Fords and every time I figure out most of it without it).
