Question Torque Lock Up??

Having read many posts regarding the Torque Converter lockup, I have been trying to feel the difference while driving. I cannot. How do you tell when the TC is locked up? Don't yell at me too hard if this is a dumb question, but if you don't ask you won't know..

I've used TC with my Livewire.. Making it lockup on 2-6th gear.. What i've noticed.. With TC Lockup whenever I'm in 2-6th gear and I let go.. The TC keeps it holding at the RPMS but drifting slowly down to idle. With TC Lockup off whenever I let go of the throttle the rpms instantly hit idle.. So TC basically creates a drag for slowing down but also allows you to maintain throttle so you can get back into it without having to pull out of idle.. If that makes sense..

All I know is TC Lockup is only good if your racing or you have aftermarket TC.. Mine went haywire when I had TC lockup on.. It would shift funny as hell unless I was driving very light or WOT.. In between (normal driving style) it would go bazook..

If you throttled between ease and WOT she would buck and jerk.. For instance if say I was doing 20mph and I rolled the throttle to take off she'd downshift, upshift, downshift then go.. then shift up hard then back down to the previous gear.. Finally I disabled the TC Lockup and its been fine every since..

Now WOT she was awesome.. She would take off if I would let go of the throttle then get back on her it was instant 32lbs of boost.. No delay..

Its possible... If yours is shifting like that then yeah its the TC Lockup.. I have pretty tight connections with the boys at my ford house and I took it in there.. They ran some tests and said everything is green in stock mode.. But once I put the tuner on and I took them with me.. They said yeah its the TC Lockup parameters in the tuner.. Me and Bill (dfuser) did some research too and confirmed that TC Lockup on a Stock TC is best for WOT at Drag Strip.. Unless your like 6L PWR who has an aftermarket TC.. He can run TC Lockup with no problems...

While out on an open road, get the truck up to about 60 MPH. While maintaining that steady speed, gently touch the brake pedal with your left foot (just enough to make the brake lights eliminate). You should see the RPMs increase by a couple thousand (this is the torque converter un-locking). Once you take your foot off the brake pedal the RPMs should drop again within a couple of seconds (this is the torque converter locking-up again).

The torque converter will unlock when you touch the brakes, when you let off the throttle, or when the truck comes under strain (such as climbing a steep mountain).

I hope your RPM's do not increase by a couple thousand or you may be looking for a new engine.

The RPM's should increase by a couple hundred. If I'm at 70mph with the torque converter locked up the tachometer shows around 2000rpm. If I hit the brake pedal while I'm still on the throttle at 70mph my tachometer will kick up to 2200rpm to 2400rpm from 2000rpm. This is the indication that the torque converter clutch disengaged.

Ten to 20 seconds after I've released the brake pedal the tachometer will drop down to 2000rpm and I can feel the converter lock-up.

Yea, I messed that part up. It is a couple of hundred RPMs, not thousand.
