Some time back I posted a question regarding boost pressure. I had never seen my gauge (stock) go over 20psi. Yet others were reporting up to 30. I tried getting on it many times and never got over 20.
I was looking at Turbo, vanes stuck, bad boost sensor or gauge, on and on...
Well the other day, I got that wild hair going and tromped on it. I hit my normal 20psi, then all of a sudden the pedal slipped forward some more and I hit about 25-28. found that the throttle pedal had a rough spot. Worked it a couple of time and now can hit high 20's anytime I want.....
Lesson: Let not overcomplicate. Look for the easy answer first...
I seem to have to keep learning this lesson though...
If the pedal is sticcking alot you may have a bad throttle body. I had an issue that was driving me up a wall on my focus. It got replaced and no more problems
took a trip down to Phoenix a couple of weeks back, had my 80 year old Mom (who acts like she's 60) as shotgun. This was a big family reunion trip so had several stops down there. I check under the hood a day or so b4 coming back and: holy crap?! the degas bottle (aka: coolant overflow, etc.) is down an inch or more from 800 miles ago b4 when I left home! Crap, I have an egr cooler failing or head gaskets or... Gawd, I'll be in the middle of the desert and overheat with my 80 year old Mom and.... =0
So it's a Friday and I get in touch with this super quality dealer in Tempe: Earnhardt Ford. Explain the situation, they say come right down, they run tests and say it's the egr cooler and after some discussion can work on it on Saturday (if I lived down there I would use these guys, they actually let you talk to the techs!). Anyway, next day the next shift's tech says: "hey, I'm not finding a problem!". After 20 minutes on the phone with him, and going thru every test he's done, I'm convinced. Other than: where'd that coolant go?! (no, I check it only cold and truck level)
He's got the theory for me tho: says he checked OASIS and sees I just had the serp belt changed (it was squealing). And if he were to change the belt he'd use a trick most techs use, and pop the top rad hose off to get it out of the way. That creates a bubble in the system and, by the way, how many miles did I drive after the belt change and before I checked the degas tank last?
uhmmm, about 6.....
duh. So let's just chaulk it up to a fair bit of paranoia -- kinda' like going to the Dr. for a checkup...!
Yeah these are drive by wire but that is a funny story. My bud who is a tech told me of a guy who brought his 6.0 in for lack of power. The owner told him that is had ran great and then all of a sudden one day it had no power. He hauls heavy loads over the mountain passes. Normally he can go 55-60 over the passes and then he was clear down to 45 mph. My bud took it in and checked it out. He could find nothing. He test drove it and noticed that the floor mat (aftermarket) was pushed up behind the accelerator pedal. LOL that was all that was wrong he only had about 3/4 of the travel that it should.
Some times we jump to conclusions and ignore the obvious...
