Alright, I have a 1992 F-250 4x4 7.3 non-turbo. Been babied has only 140,000 documented miles on it but it has been lifted and is running 33x15.5 tires. It is strictly a camper vehicle for me, has a 2000+ lb camper on the back.
Looking to add some stuff for reliability/power and peace of mind. Here is my list:
1. Trans temp Guage
2. Pyrometer, do I need it for a non-turbo.
3. Bigger exhaust, how big is to big?
Already has tranny cooler. Along with this I'm taking it to a diesel mechanic and having him do a run down on her.
My only concern:
When in reverse it takes a lot of pedal pressure to get her moving, more than if I was going forward. It has the E40D. Any ideas? Hasn't been rebuilt.
Non-Turbo no need for pyrometer.
Transmission Temperature gauge OH YES!
3" exhaust is easy to come by and would work well 3.5" to 4 inch better yet let her breath!
140,000 never been rebuilt E4OD probably on her last leg. I have a donor truck on the schedule for dismantling that uses every inch of the gas pedal to make her move in reverse 92 4x2 E4OD. If you rebuild it spend the extra and get the heavy duty torque they are like 1000 by themselves. The stock torque is junk.
If it is stock, build yourself a decient ram air system, get rid of the soup bowl, build yourself a Y pipe that runs into a 94-97 4" exhaust system, most bang for your buck.
Pic's in my gallery of the intake system I built, like it a lot. I just had to install a new torque converter as mine crapped out while trying to tow 1800 lb empty trailer!
I just did a 3in on my 5.0 F150 so I have a good shop. My reason for the pyrometer is becuase I do ALOT of baja driving and there are some nasty hills on the way down the *****ula. With that heavy camper, I want all the know I can get when it comes to hurting my engine! I'll be getting a lighter one soon from All Terrain Campers. Attached is what I'm looking like now.
