Found a used 2006 KR 4x4 with 15,500 miles on it. Looks to be in good shape.
That thing that makes it odd (to me) is that it does not have auto-engage 4x4. Its the old manual stick shift on the floor. Does have tow command.
This could be a simple case of custom order truck or something more sinister.
Does this configuration make it more reliable? How about less efficient in terms of performance? Would this deter you from purchasing this truck?
Not having any information on this, does it have auto-lock hubs when engaging the shifter on the floor?
MORE reliable, no difference in MPGs, just the fact that you have to get out and lock the hubs before you can use 4x4. Which is a privilege, sometimes...
The "standard" KR might be manual tranfer case. Or, they did a "ESOF delete".
I have a 2007 F250 SD 5.4. It was bought off the lot with the xlt trim and it has manual 4X4 hubs and shift. It also has tow command. I think it was a cost deletion for a #of trucks. If it was at a known fleet dealer lot it may have been brought in for the general contractor who wanted a nice truck but wanted to lower the cost.
Just my 2 cents
Well my dads 99' SD (Bought New) had had to go back to the dealer 4 times before they got the ESOF 4wd working. Then my dad traded in the 99' for a new 03' ESOF and that had to go back to the dealer 3 times to get it working. Both trucks would not go into 4wd would whistle like crazy until you turned back to 2wd.
Needless to say when I bought my new 04' it had Manual Hubs and the stick. Good ol reliable. I'll just get out of the truck to lock in the hubs, no big deal. With the hubs locked you can still knock the stick in and out of 4wd while your driving.
Ok, asking for help here. I'm thinking of traveling to look at this truck and its 100 miles away one way. Their initial asking price (over the phone) is $31,000 and I do not know what the rear axle is but its at least a 4.10 since that is all that was offered by Ford in 2006 on V10's.
What should one look for as give aways that its been trashed, burned, swamped, crashed, totaled, is the frankenstein combination of an F250 front and F350 rear end, lived a brief life under water, had an FBI investigation centered around it, or was used to tow 30,000 lbs trackhoes with it?
In other words, what should my eyes be peeled wide for since I'm a proverbial at buying anything used beyond a Honda.
I recommend a FORD Oasis Report and a CarFax Report. Check the front hubs...they should "NOT" have the 'Auto' on them...if no ESOF. Other than that...just look with an eagle eye.
