undo EBPV where?

I have a 97 PSD manual 5sp and I am not sure where to unplug the EBPV. I am also interested in wiring it to use for engine brake when towing. Is there a scematic or diagram somewhere I can use? any direction would be helpful.

Neal, you unplug the the two pin connector that is located below the inlet pipe where it feeds in to the turbo from your air box, Kwikordead has a good write-up on how to convert it, I will shoot the link when I get home if somebody doesn't beat me to it, I am also going to do a write up as I am planning on the same mod, when time permits. Search for EBPV, and welcome to FTE!!

Thanks for the welcome and the info. I think I found it last night but was not sure that that was the right one. Right now the truck cranks easy but runs as if it misses for between two to fifteen minutes. I am hoping this is my problem. I will be looking forward to seeing the link. Thanx again.

I dont think the EBPV is your issue, that would cause a jake brake sound, but a miss sounds like something else. also two and fifteen minutes is a long time to have a miss. More info would be good and we will see if we can figure it out

Well, the issue is not as bad when it is warm and will only last a couple of minutes. When it is cold or the truck is not driven for several days it feels like a gasser that is missing for approx. 10 minutes whether being driven or idling. When I crank it I will drive awhile and then I really sous down on it, it misses but slowly gains RPM's but all of a sudden it cuts loose like a rocket and is fine until it is shut off and allowed to cool for +/- 5hrs.

I have 4" exhaust w/3.5" downpipe no cat and fairly new 4" mufler. It has an AFE air filter and box. I had the glow plugs replaced several years ago and it still did it then. About 1.5 years ago I had the cam pos. sensor and injector pump replaced as they were bad (so said the dealer) and it still did it then.

I am going to try to get time to test the GP's with an ohm meter tonight. I tested the GPR last night with a test light and it seems to be working fine.

As you can tell I lived with this for some time and has never been a problem, I just can't be in a hurry when I first start it up.

There is one write up here. There are some other ways to do it though. A search here for "EBPV brake" should bring some up.

Thanx for the link. I have read this site previously but forgot where I read the info. I pull a 36' 5th wheel camper and it weighs around 15,000 lbs. so I think the brake would benefit me alot.

OH yeah I do have another small problem which I can and will address in another post. The problem only happened twice this year so far and three times last year. When going down the Highway and beginning to slow down for a redlight the truck completely dies. I tap the accelarator a few times (I don't know if that does any good) and she comes back to life. While she is dead the CEL comes on but goes out immediately after she starts back up. I don't think this is related but may help in the diagnosis.

That really sounds like a CPS to me. My truck is currently doing the same thing, I will replace the CPS tonight and let you know. My CPS is only 6 months old. So I wouldn't rule that out. When you said you have an injector pump replaced, do you mean an injector?

The only thing PSD 162 has ever gotten wrong is not putting his pimp name in his signiture block, order a new CPS make sure you get the right one cause I believe there were two different ones for the 97 changing at an engine serial number Somebody will post that info shortly get it from ebay for cheap and change it out.

Do you mean that both of my symptoms may be CPS derived? I hope so. I agree I have seen PSD 162 on most everything that was of interest to me. Thanks to everyone. I do have a list of what was repaired on the truck if anyone cares. Approx. 4 grand... what a ripoff and no fix. I will try the CPS. Is there any info or support on the changeout out there? The biggest cost is PN# PS-1100X @ 267.60 each for a total of $2140.00. What is this? my guess is injectors. Of course this is from a Stealership.
