door lock wiring

I need some help wiring the door lock system in my 56 Mercury.
I have 3 pin GM lock switches and the lock actuators are from a ford.
I'm having trouble wiring the whole set up.
I would appreciate any and all help. It's driving me crazy.

Well this may be over simplified, haven't got to that stage on my truck yet
But wouldn't it be 12 volts to centre contact of switch, then two wires running to each actuator, one for open and one for close.....then each actuator would have a ground wire and then the two other wires one each for open and close????
That is if there are three wires on the switch and the actuator. Just a guess.............

No,unfortunately it's not that simple. There is no ground on the actuator. However I did try it with a ground on the actuator and it didn't work.
If all else fails I'll go to the junk yard and crawl under the dash and figure it out.I'm just hoping someone out there has been through this already and will save me a lot of time.
Thanks anyway.

If you know what year the gm switches are out of, Do what I did and buy a haynes
book and look/follow the wiring diagram. It was a lot of help to me.Good luck.

How many wires come out of the actuator? The actuator may ground through the case. Have you tried grounding the case and then put bat pos to one wire and then the other (assuming 2 wires)? If that works I would say one post on the switch is for bat pos and the other 2 go to the actuator for lock and unlock.

When you reverse the wires to the actuator on the battery it will lock or unlock the door. However I did a little more research today and I think if I get a 5 pin switch it will work. Two pins on that switch are for ground. The same as a single power window switch. It is the same idea.Reverse polarity.
The lock switch is just momentary.
I have the Auto Lock keyless entry kit.Model KL550.If you go on their website and look up that model's wiring diagram you will see what I'm trying to say.But I could be wrong.
At this point I'm ready to try anything.
