Sometimes when I hit a bump in the road I hear a grouling noise from the front axle on the drivers side. The noise will last untill I hit another bump, or stop after 3-5 seconds. So I jacked up the truck checked the ball joints and tie rod ends and everything seems tight. Cant seem to find where anything is rubbing and the truck runs straight on the road. Just a little play in the pitman arm but not worn for replacement yet. I even had the local shop (a relative) check everything out when the truck went in for an annual NYS inspection and they also found no problems. Just looking for any suggestions to look for. I have replaced all swaybar bushings, wheel bearings(30,000 mi ago), and front u-joints last summer.

Try manually locking the hubs....see if it makes any difference.

I have manual locking hubs from the factory. I noticed that during the recent snow storm last monday with the hubs locked in without the transfer case engaged in 4X4 the noise was not present. What could be the culprit? Hubs worn out? Any suggestions? Thanks

The hub's needle bearings?

Have you ever serviced them?

They only turn when the hub's UNlocked.

See guzzle's write-up at:

yes I have serviced the hub bearings on the oem set, but these only have 30,000 mi or less. How often should you need to lube. Unless they were never lubed from the factory?
