ok guy's..my Trans is coming out and being replaced with I hope to be a BTS..I noticed my up pipes have no leaks and seem to be in good shape..but the bolts on the top half are getting weak and smaller in size from heat, rust and age..I want to change the bolts now while its easy to get at with the Trans out...can I just cut the bolts and replace with new with out taking the pipes out and taking off the turbo??or should I get new gaskets as well and take it all apart??like I said the pipes look good and there is no leak right now..also are the bolts threaded into the manifolds?? or are they just a nut and bolt?? they don't look like they will come out that easy..what's the best way to get them out with out breaking the manifolds?
thanks a lot guy's
Doughnut gaskets could be ok for now, may start leaking soon. If it was me, I'd replace the gaskets while everything is easy to get to. Mine are leaking, have the gaskets onhand, just waiting on it to warm up around here. The rusty bolts I plan on cutting and replacing, don't want to break anything removing them.
Ron, Kwikk had the best method for removing the bolts. Soak the down in PB Blast and whe you go to remove them dont try to back the out all at once, back em out a little then take the back down and spray, back em out a little more, ect. All should be Nut and Bolt.
thanks guy's..if i do the gaskets too will i need to remove the turbo? or can that stay in place??? with getting the BTS trans cash flow will be short..if i remove the turbo that means new o--rings and what ever..as of right now nothing leaks..hate to fix what isnt broke...
There is the collector between the ups and the turbo held to the turbo by one of those *&%$#$^%@&)@*&*#^%#%^& marmon clamps so you shouldn't need to touch the turbo at all unless you see a little dampness when you get up behind it. May be a good thing to have on hand just in case though.
I would recommend having that up pipe manifold that connects the up pipes to the turbo on hand. Three our of four of my broke off. I tried everything to get them out, I wrecked two bold extractors and used a lot of torch gas

Ron this is not a bad job if you removing the trand, i had to do it with everything in it, and its a finger busting job, if you want i have that piece where up pipes go in, since i have diferent turbo, i can send it to you, but after you done ill need it back, just if you want to have an insurence while you doing the job, and dont want to wait , in case you brake bolts off,
let me know,
