Well after owning my 1996 F250 for 11 good years I decided that I needed an F350 and could not find a used one I was satisfied with so i had my loacal dealer do a search for me. He found a 07 F350 lariat with most of extras that I would have ordered, at a dealer about 250 miles away. He did a dealer swap and I drove a 2008 F250 over and picked mine up. The 08 was a new 6.4 with a manual tranny, XLT it sure did drive nice and had lots of power, really smooth. If had been an F350 I probably would have got it. But I'm not unhappy with my 07 except trying to get the tires balanced to stop the jumping at about 35 to 45 mph.
Hope it gives me as good service as my old 1996. That is a good oldy.
I sold off my '91 Ford and bought a 2007 as a replacement. I really liked the old truck, but I think I like the new one better.
The transmission w/tow haul, and the power of the diesel (I had a 460 in the old truck) really are nice improvements. It is so much more controllable with a heavy load in the hills, and the tranny doesn't heat up.
traveller1002000: change your shocks out and it will help the most. Most guys here prefer the Bilsteins, and depending on your truck use, I've found them to be the best at controlling wheel oscillation from bumps. I went with the adjustable ranchos since we go from no load to max load with our slide in camper and they work well for that application range. I will note that the ranchos can't quite handle the bigger tires I now have when empty (wheel oscillation, mainly).
We love our '07, and yeah there are a number of things we like too on the '08, but the increased complexity of the emissions isn't one of them...
Diesel Dan, do you think that those new shocks that came on my truck could be the cause? They are Ranchos, not adjustable but only have now 820 miles on the truck. I too will carry my Northern Lite slide in camper on this truck and had planed to purchase adjustable ranchos when I need new ones. Do you have air bags on yours?
Thanks wiingnut, I'll have to look into that TSB, though I'm betting the dealer will ask me to put the stock tires on -- didn't really notice the problem with the stock tires...
traveller1002000: yes I have the Air Lift brand bags on, I've had them on 3 trucks with no problems on any, though I like the quality of the Firestones even better (they use larger lines and brass fittings). I haven't read any very good posts on the forum about the Ford FX4 Ranchos, maybe someone who's swapped them out can comment, but if you are stock, I'd check into the TSB that wiingnut mentioned 1st.
Go to the top of the page and click on " Recalls/TSB's " then follow instructions for your year, model, etc.
You will get a list of all applicable TSB's
