I've noticed something that seems peculiar whenever I go to take off from a stop. It's in the driveline. Feeels like something has to rotate a partial turn before the tranny engages and the truck begins to move in response to the accelerator. Happens very fast... first half second when I go to accelerate. Don't know if this is "slipping" in the tranny or something else. Happens no other time. Happens when it's hot, cold, warm, raining, dry, on a hill, flat in a parking lot. otherwise, the tranny seems to shift cleanly and efficiently and smoothly at all shift points.
No signs of leakage, no noise, just an extremely brief hesitation in movement once I begin accelerating.
Is this delay you speak of considered "normal", or signs or imminent failure? The symptoms also seem to be getting a little more pronounced here lately. The recent increase in this "delay' just happens to coincide with my re-routing of the CCV, but I'm sure that there really can't be a connection between those issues... just coinki-dinky, right?
i would say that your ccv mod is not contributing to your problem. I would smell your trans. fluid for a hint of burnt smell. and make sure it is at the correct level alot of people over look the simple things.
How old is the fluid?
could be a worn tourqe converter. (slim chance)
Can't say how old the fluid is... just bought the truck last September. I've put about 12K miles on it since then. Had 114K when I got it, and it just crossed the 126K mark yesterday. I'm leaving the office now, and will check those things when I get home from work.
Does it kinda feel like someone is kicking you in the butt.? Try checking the slip yoke in the center of your drive shaft under the rubber boot. It gets dry and does not slip correctly. Remove the boot (or push out of the way) lubricate liberaly and reattach the boot.
I will bet my mortgage that you are about to have tranny failure in the very near future! This is IDENTICAL to the symptoms I had just prior to my rear bearing in the tranny seizing and ruining my housing. I would get it into a tranny shop ASAP and have them diagnose it, before you end up ruining your case. BTW, my F-350 has almost the identical miles yours does, 124,000 is when it failed.
fbilly...Got home yesterday afternoon and popped the hood to check fluid. Fluid had no signs of being burnt in either its appearance or odor. Looked very clean. Level was perfect.
Don Tim... no butt kick sensations at all
Suber... thanks for the heads up, which leads me to Alan
Alan... no clunk... just a slight delay, and it's not at every take off from a stop, either. I really appreciate your kind offer, and will be glad to take you up on it. I have a trip to Prattville this coming Tuesday. We can work out the time for getting together off line, but it looks like I'll be in the plant all day until about 3:30 pm.
If anything changes in the very near future, I'll post again. Otherwise, I'll plan on getting with Alan to check things out a bit and see where that leads.
I really appreciate all you guys pitching in to help me sort through this. The symptoms are really not very bad, just beginning to nag on the back of my mind a bit, and since there is this apparent "slight worsening" in the recent weeks, i want to head off anything major if at all possible, like Suber was mentioning.
Pete, I am leaning towards Alan and Don Tim's evaluation, It sounds like the slip joint, or it could be a U-joint. the slip joint is a known problem, and if it gets dry enough will lead to a clunk. If it was a U-joint you would most likely hear noise at speed. Let Alan plug the magical mystery machine into it and it will tell ya, if the tranny's toasting.
Pete, I really must apologize as I am in the wrong section! ouch I have a 97 F-350 with the magical, lovely, E4od tranny. Mine was doing the same thing and I checked all the driveline components thinking the same thing, and it turned out it was my trannsmission. My *** end was clunking everytime I pushed down on the accelerator.
Gents. I am having the exact same problem on my 2000. I thought it was not in the trans because I have also stalled once or twice. Has there been any resolution to this problem?
