Steady "thump" at low speed
I have had my 2001 Expedition in many different repair shops and they can't tell me what this is.... Its a steady thump thump thump after taking off, while making low speed turns and when coming to a stop. It seems to be worse at a low speed coast. Or maybe I just cant hear it when I drive faster.
Any ideas... I have had people say "well maybe cv joints, or u joints or... "
But they never make up their minds!!!

I had the same problem with mine. It almost felt like something was locking up in the rear. Actually the best way I could describe it is like you have a flat spot in the old bias ply tires. A thump, thump, thump, very regularly as you drive. I had a feeling that it was something in the rear end, since I'd had a leaking axle seal for a couple years. I did take it to the dealer to have the seals and bearings replaced (since I was just too lazy to do it myself) and I haven't noticed it since then. I think it was probably an axle bearing getting ready to lock up. Either that or the gear oil that was leaking out had contaminated the parking brake shoes to the point that they were swelling and grabbing as I drove. The tech did note that the rear brakes were in bad shape.
