yep. or at least have 3 different gear sets in the lineup for all the body styles. I love my 3.73's. If it weren't so expensive to change out the front axle, I would consider swapping to 4.10's though. the initial "go" is just a little slow for me.
you would think goign to 20" wheels/ tires they would give you the option to have more gear....not less....
I have the 3.55 and never do any towing but have always wondered if that's
part of the reason I've averaged right at 17 mpg consistently in my 25000
miles I've put on my truck. I read mileage claims all over the place but these
numbers are always hand calculated, although my dash is indicating 17.2
right now. Last tank came out to 17.3. I live in San Diego so the mild temps
have to be a factor as well. But as for the gearing, I'm happy with the 3.55.

yeah, i think the 3.55s will help if you do a lot of flat driving.....
not to many flat spots in Pennsylvania...and i have the 3.73's...
I have the 3.55's as well and they do just fine. Like everyone else says get the truck you like unless you tow quite often or tow heavy loads. If you put bigger tires on it changes your ratio as well so if you plan on bigger tires go for the 3.73's.
and how do you tell your gear ratio i looked at my door sticker but nothing really popped out at me showing me what i had, i'm gonna assume that since i have an STX i prolly have 3.55 but who knows, do you guys?

You would see it on your sticker as an upgrade option. If it is not there, it is safe to say you have the 3.55. Did you buy the truck new?
Look on your differential cover and you should see a metal tag somewhere there on one of the bolts that will have the ratio numbers. I think it will be
3.55 for 3.55 gear ratio
3L55 for 3.55 Limited slip
3.73 for 3.73 gear ratio
3L73 for 3.73 Limited slip
I think those are the numbers but I am not sure. It should be pretty close though.
Thanks for all the replies. I thought taht I had heard the FX4 came with the 3.73, also thougth I heard you could tell by the sticker on the door, something like if it had a B6 then it was the 3.73, can anyone confirm this. I know I read it somewhere on here but search turned up nada, thanks again all. My truck is an 06 FX4 5.4 Scab. I bought it as a demo model so I did not get a window sticker.
i've heard for the front's anywhere from 400 to 600 JUST FOR THE FRONT....now thats what i've heard only so it may or may not be correct...
when i had my mustang i have the gears swaped out in that to 4.10's an it only cost me 200 bucks....i supplied everything....only took him 40 minutes and he was done....i've always heard 1000 to 1200 for a truck to replace both...
about double the cost of the rear end. there is more interference to be removed and it's a big PITA. I could probably get them installed front/rear for about $1,000 on top of parts $.
I'd rather put that money towards a supercharger though.
the FX4 comes with 3.73 LS. it's part of the package
Sweet, cuz I am working on getting cash together for a lift and new rims and tires and naturally, probably a swap to the 4.10's and I'll need to front and back.
