As a matter of fact they cut my Fuel mileage. You can't get better fuel mileage by adding more fuel. Best thing you can do is make sure you have Good Fuel. Tires are properly inflated and keep the speed down.
I second that, although I only have 217,000 on the K&N in my 02. MPG is all about RPM's and how quickly or slowly you get there.

It's not about adding more fuel. It's how your chip / programmer is programmed. They adjust timing, pulse width of how long the injector shoots fuel, and air fuel balance. There is also a lot more to it. You might want to try resetting your trip meter up above or your average miles per gallon because if your fuel economy went down then there is definetly a problem. Even when I decide to gun my truck the worst I have seen my fuel economy drop to is 17 mpg and that's beating on it!! I'll take 17 anyday over the 13.5 I got stock!!

Well.... when you reset your computer in your truck, look at the miles on your truck after a fill up, and do the math and all three equal the same number or are within .3 my guess is that's what I'm getting for fuel economy. But what do I know!!

I mean anywhere from 500 to 550 trip miles to a tank divided by 26 gallon tank = 19.3 to 21 mpg. FYI thats in town!!

How large is the tank on these superduty's. I tried to look in the owners manual, but I could not really find a spot for f-250 supercab shortbox, which is what I have. So it looks like my best bet is to remove the muffler, upgrade the air intake, and get a six position chip for mileage? Would getting the larger turbo downpipe help also or is that not nessesary?

I have a crew cab short box and its 26 gallons and yours could be a 28 or 29 gallon. I would also reccomend getting a 4in. turbo back exhaust from MBRP or Banks because they are mandrel bent t-409 stainless and would out perform a stock exhast any day. A Banks exhaust for example eliminates 228% of backpressure compared to stock exhaust. In other words it allows your truck to push out the exhaust easier.

I can't agree with you 100% on this... RPMs will have a big affect, but my drive to work regularly has me in a 25mph+ crosswind, and sometimes nearing 50mph (or more!!! ) - when you fight that kind of wind, mileage suffers, no two ways about it

FWIW I'm driving in Wyoming and this is NORMAL... no wonder the state is so sparsely populated....

Once the exhaust was/is done, anyone notice MPG increase? Next, how long before you noticed 1,2 maybe 4 tanks worth?

Hand calculated MPG can vary

Another interesting note on filling up your diesel. I always run hand-calculated numbers and never thought about how diesel foams. I always filled it up until the pump shut off, then called it good. Thought about it the other day and "topped-off" my tank after the pump shut-off. It took an extra 3.2 gallons of diesel (38 gallon tank) This won't throw off your numbers a bunch, but if you use different pumps that agitate the diesel more than another, it can give you a different "full" reading. Just my .02

Side-note: anyone with a 7.3 running SAE 30 Delo 400 instead of 15-40 Delo? Thinking about trying it, wasn't sure what people thought (not trying to rob the thread, feel free to PM me)

Thanks

The only way it would make a fairly large difference in the calculation is if you filled it to the neck (with fuel, not foam) first then only filled it until it shut off once the next time.

As far as the SAE 30, I'd stick with the multi-vis because the manufacturer calls for it. I think the engine would wear a bit less with the lighter oil when it's cool and the heavier oil once it's warmed up, IMHO.

Maybe move upwind from work? No my point was proper maintenance and common sense driving will get you better mileage than hot rodding it weather its strong winds, hills or flat land. I know your mileage will suffer in the wind, but it would be worse if you kept your foot on the floor. That's all I was trying to say.
