I have an '88 F150. It is a 351 4x4 with the C6 transmission. Shortly I'm going to put in a rebuilt engine. I am interested in swapping to an E4OD transmission. I know this transmission didn't come along until later years.
I have a 95 flareside and I WAS going to put in an E4OD4x4setup under it to convert it from 4x2.However, as I got to looking at it....Iwould have needed a new brain box the tranny wiring harnesses and 4x4 module located on the passenger side kickpanel...you may have more initiative than me but.....too much work and involvement for my blood. And, lessons be learned, I should have looked into that swap a little further before spendin a grand ona totaled bronco with a racing tranny in it.....now I'm stuck with it and trying to sell it.(any interests?????)......forless thanI paid.If I can think of anything else for this swap....I'll give ya a buzz.Thanks.
I believe that the E4OD is just the C6 with overdrive. Anyone confirm that? If this is true, it should bolt right up to stock mounting positions. I dont know if the bellhousings are the same but I believe they are. You will need a new computer and maybe a shorter drive shaft. Im not a transmission guy so dont take my word until you can confirm it with someone else who knows a little more than I do.
The bellhousings match, but the lengths, I believe, are different, so you'll need to change the driveaxle. The C6 is vacuum controlled, but the E4OD is computer controlled. There are aftermarket tranny control modules available, but they're spendy. Then there's the whole shift linkage/indicator issue.
Not impossible, just not a straight drop-in, either.
