Check eng. Code 14
is code 14 on a 1987 Tbird Turbo Coupe the same as for a 87 RAnger with the 2.3?
MY Bird sored that code last week whe it was missing and the tach going spastic. scanner said pickup coil circuit failed.
Is that the star wheel in the distributer?

I'm not that familiar with that application, but the pickup coil (maybe called the PIP, or profile ignition pickup) should be the sensor that responds to the star wheel as it rotates. A book I have says the distributer must be removed before the coil can be replaced.

Along with the coil pickup, you should also suspect the TFI module, as well as the associated harness and connector.

Thanks, I put a new TFI modual on last year. I took the distributer out today and replaced the PIP with a lifetime war. part from Borgwarner made by Standard ig parts. Ford wanted $68.00 vs $34 and Ford war. only 12 months 12,000 miles.
I hope this cures it as I take her on a 1000 mile run next week.
