thanks grover,
i even went looking into mid 80's full size truck masters and they were nowhere near 1-1/4" bore size.
now you got me thinking about dual masters and line replacement to wheel cylinders.
if wheel cyl's fit, i may be better off.
it may also be cheaper to replace than the old stuff.
i'll do a search into master bore sizing also.
i sure feel better with a dual system.
i'll keep you posted what i find and what i plan to do.
Hi, Don
A newbie here... don't know if this will help or simply add confusion... A couple weeks ago, I had found a post (and, of course, can't find it again!) regarding disc brake swaps for the '53-'56 F250's... it stated that backing plates, calipers and rotors from a '75-'79 F250 would fit our stock front axles with a minimal bit of modification for mounting. The stock hubs would need longer studs to compensate for the added thickness of the rotor. Now the bad news... the reason I have been trying to find that post again... the rotors were from the 4x4, but I can't remember if the calipers and mounting brackets were from a 4x4 or 4x2... or if it even matters. Plus I want to verify this info.
I also plan on converting the master cylinder to power brakes with one of the kits out there.
So, there ya have it... at least there is a kindred spirit out here that 'feels your pain'!
Long Live 250's!! Tell Grover that Woodie sez "HEY!"
Lee
ps- I am talking without ever having torn into my truck yet to actually look at the front wheels to see what's up there. I am still waiting for the PB Blaster to soak in so I can remove the lugnuts!! Only recently started working on it, been spending most of my time trying to get it to run.
So, if I reference something that doesn't exist! I will truly feel like a moron!

Lee, you've reminded me that I need to crawl under Grover and apply another coat of WD40 to the u-bolts on the rear axle. It's my axle swap project that got me to thinking about upgrading my brakes, since that new ratio will actually allow me to EXCEED the posted speed limit!
if you get a ticket for exceeding the posted speed limitit's not my fault ! i get into enough trouble here with my better half i dont want your's mad at me too ! hee heee !

Oh, my wife would never blame you! She knows I don't need any help or inspiration to drive the speed limit exceedingly.
I think the one limiting factor will be whatever starts vibrating or rattling once I get past 60mph. I did a little figuring: If I don't get the speedometer gear changed, when the speedo says 55 I'll actually be doing close to 70. My rear view mirror vibrates so hard at 55mph that the people behind me lok like they are jumping up and down.
Don, I haven't been on this forum for ages, but I did the early 70's rear axle swap on my F250. That was a breeze except for getting the U bolts un done. It took a couple of weeks to get them loose with lots of penetrating oil and cheater bars.
I put a dual master cylinder in my truck after the rear axle swap by mounting it in the original location under the cab. I can even fill it through the hole in the floor. I cut a section out of the original mounting bracket for the single master cylinder and welded a plate to mount the dual cylinder with straps to reinforce the plate. I've run that set up for about 10 years. I copied the idea from pictures of some of the aftermarket stuff. I can't remember what master cylinder I used. I just got it from the local Carquest.
Since you will be able to cruise at a speed that the wife objects to, I would suggest that you put 6 degree shims under your springs on the front axle to get more caster. I found that when I got up around 60-65 it wanted to wander a little. I changed to 4 deg and now it is OK up to 75-80. Wish I had gone to 6 deg like several people told me to. May do it this winter.
And here I thought the wandering I experience at speeds above 50 was due to the worn out shocks......
Actually, that sounds like a great idea. I may have to wait until I have my wife's '02 Taurus running again. The transmission seems to have crapped out. We have 189,000 miles on the Taurus, and it has been a pain sometimes, and yet our '94 Tempo has 266,000 reliable miles on it.
