can anyone help me out with my vin im tryin to find out what the heck im really workin with if anyone can help let me know ill get the vin for tomarrow
The VIN may or may not contain what you're looking for. For some reason, people are under the impression that it contain axle & tranny info. All you can get out of a VIN is probably what you already know - body style, engine, and year.
i got the tranny info and ill get the rear end info as soon as i get off my butt and go look at it.. i know what body style it is and engine not so much my engine code is y and that could be the 300 or the 302 carb or efi one... i belive not sure gotta recheck that
The 8th digit in the VIN is the engine size. The VIN doesn't contain codes for transmission or rear axle. Those and other numbers are listed by themselves on the Warranty Plate.
o well heck............... seenin that the vin code y means its a 4.9 efi... ouch hmm ok i got a front clip off a 302 f 150 hmm ok so and its a 85 f 150 that i got i have a carb 4.9 in it right now or... some one switched it over to a carb can that even be done?
I don't wanna argue..(for once )....but the 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog~General Information Section~Page 21~Certification Label~Engine Codes says: Y 1983/ 4.9 EFI

The "Y" code was used from 1983 to 1997 for trucks equipped with the 300. The 300 received EFI in 1987 and retained the same VIN code.
the link will not open for me i have tryed everything... ok but here is the

i know the 8th number is for engine y = 4.9 efi and the 10th is they year f = 85
