427 engine
Has anyone ever had one of these? How expensive are they to buy? What would they fit in? (they are very wide, arent they).

A 427 is the same basicily as a 390 with a thicker cylinder wall casting.
Limited production and very expensive if you can find one as they were blown up/destroyed doing what they were designed for, racing.
Here is a link to a gallery of some neat Ford engines, Bosses, 427, 428`s.
This picture is as close as I ever will get to a 427, this is NOT my garage!

You can still buy them new from Carol Shelby but be prepared for some serious $$$$$.

Would be a deadly engine, what are you thinking of putting it into?

When I worked at the bus garage down in Melita, we had a old Ford bus with a truck version in it. Wasn't original of course, bananas came with 370's.
Interestingly enough, there's a company in the states make a small block 427 Ford now. Might have been one of you guys who originally posted it, but...

Trevor, are you positively sure it was a 427?
If so it would be neat to try tracking it down unless it was a long time ago.

No, not 100%. It's been a while but I know it is either a 427, 428, or 429.

A 429 was common in the bigger Ford school buses.
Glen-66gpw bought a bus last year with a 429. Nice but a very different animal.

The truck type 429 is good for a lot of slow speed torque, not too much on speed. A Boss 429 is a different story, it`s no slug.

This wasn't the original engine though. It originally had a 370.
