The other day my ABS light came on.. so i shut the truck off and restarted it.. went away. now again today it came back on, i noticed at very low speeds (under 30 Miles) there is a little shutter like the abs is trying to come on. would that be just a bad sensor? i did recently replace all my rear brakes and brake lines also replaced the front brake lines to steel braided lines when i did my lift. we bleed them alot also. Brakes still work fine and feel the same. any ideas? thanx
Some ABS systems need to be pressure bled, or they can have problems. Depends on the system. Find a decent shop with a pressure bleeder, would be my advice.
This happened to me once last year. Driving around in a parking lot and ABS light came on. Turn truck off, turn back on, light goes away. Did it again next day, only this time the rear brakes shuddered. This happened when it was wet out, so I immediately thought something was shorting. Never did find the problem because it automagically fixed itself after that.
Look in the fuse box under the hood, if it has one. Swap out the relay with another one and see if the light goes out. I had the same problem with the wife's '94 explorer and damn near pulled what hair I have left out trying to figure it out. Once I swapped the relay with another one beside it, it went out and remained out. Then I went and got a replacment relay and it continued to work as usual.
Noticed Light was on yesterday and today. It was wet a couple days ago, but the "1999 Explorer" was driven over 100 miles in dry warm weather. Tried the relay swap to no avail.
Test drove on a less traveled road, and was able to lock up the brakes, so ABS is not shuddering, or working.... Any other tips, and/or how much should this cost??
Below your Master cylinder there maybe a wire/plug check to see if that thing is fully
engaged or plugged in. This intermitent thing happened with me and it turned out to
be that which I mentioned above, it was just loose, so i rapped some electrical tape
once around the connector and plugged it back in. Light has not come on yet.
