Engine question...

Well I finally got to buttoning everything up on my engine today and my truck has some high idle issues. How important is the MAP sensor as far as idle goes? I am running an explorer shortblock with a 302HO camshaft and after getting the distributor in the right spot the truck fires easily, but it kinda pops through the open headers at this moment and I can't figure out why. I am using the GT40 Explorer upper and lower, along with a 65mm throttle body off of a lightning. So there could be a few parts here and there that could be causing these issues. Is it possible to think you have the distributor in the right spot and the truck fires fine, but could still be off somehow? The speed density should be fine with a 302HO camshaft and 1.7 roller rockers, so I shouldn't have any computer issues right?

The MAP sensor has a big effect on the air/fuel mixture. With low or no vacuum, it will run really rich. Sounds like the timing may be too high. Try setting it to 10 BTDC with the spout plug unplugged.
