Recently purchased truck and started to get DTC p1728. Dealer replaced torque converter and now the code has not come back but the it takes more effort to shift the column from P to R and D and vice versa. I haven't been driving the truck for fear of ruining the tranny. Is there anyone who has some knowledge that will help me make the correct next move? Thanks in advance
Hang tight there are a couple of guys that are real smart on this stuff, they will come along quick enough I looked on my truck and I dont have P R D ??? so I am of no help
That's Park to Reverse and Drive. Looks like you have a stick. I appreciate the reply though, I was thinking maybe my original post didn't state clearly enough what my problem was. This is the first time posting and my subject title was a little vague.
The shift cable is hanging up IMO. The dealer probably kinked yours when replacing the TC. You might be able to get them to give you a new one. It's not too hard to replace if you have to do it yourself. Just be sure to align the TRS (transmission range selector) during the install. Let us know and we can get though the cable install.
I would like to replace it myself(with help from you guys) but my immediate question is will the kinked cable cause any damage? Also, can I get a new shift cable at any parts store? What is IMO?
Not sure where to get a new cable but I would try all the mega-auto part store 1st cuz the stealership going to be expensive.
The kinked cable won't cause any damage IMO but it may leave you stranded. It may break or just get so far out of adjustment that the TRS will throw codes and/or place the tranny into "limp-in-mode" (stuck in 2nd gear).

Others will come up, but you should be able to figure them out. It will come with time online. If you're not sure, ask again. These guys throw out acronyms that I can't figure out sometimes.

No problem, your post was good, that was my weak attempt at humor I am currently LMAO from the list of acronyms. There are quite a few that I misinterpreted. Welcome to FTE.

See...even these experienced diesel-dudes (and dudettes out there, let's hear from ya) learn something new from newbies like me.
