So some one finally offered me enough for my crappy 5ver and now it is time for something new or new to me.
Keeping in mind my truck, please disregard the 5ver vs TT things like towability and the fact that anyone would gi with a 5ver considering the truck. Other items on my mind are floor plan and if the trailer outlives the vehicle.
I am trying to decide between a TT and a 5ver that I plan on keeping for 5-10 years. It will have a bunk house for the kids and a bathroom not attached to the master. Need a queen bed and at least 1 slide and maybe a second one on the bunk house.
I am more concerned with experiences with floor plans. Considering the kids aspect as well. Also differences experience such as water tanks and heating cooling costs. (But not debate on driveability).
Seems to me the things you want to consider can vary quite a bit among 5ers or TTs and don't depend so much on type of trailer as the design. Since you don't seem to care much about the 5er's handling advantage, maybe you should concentrate more about those other features without thinking they are linked to one kind or the other ? I've seen campers with good or bad capacities in both styles...
I know what you mean. I have trying to find the time to look at as many floor plans as I can, but as you, it can be very time consuming.
I have been looking at the Jay Flight 5ver or TT with all options in 30 ish feet. Also looking at the Keystone Laredo. These would be new, if I went used I would consider something nicer.
I am mostly concerned with the kid, currently 14 months and sleeping in a crib. Hopefully another one on the way soon.
I would like to hear from people with kids about how they got along.
Check your area and see if there are any trailer manufacturers reasonably close. Some of them will custom build. It would cost more but you would get exactly what you want.
We got our Prowler 29S in 1992. Our son was 12 then. It is a bunkhouse style. Could sleep 8 if needed. Didn't have a slideout. But it has been to Disneyworld about 20 times from Michigan. It has been on the road so much I've had to replace the tires. We taken along sometimes up to 3 other children and had plenty of room. Our bedroom was in the front of the trailer and had a door (must have for sanity and sleep) that closed off the rest of the trailer. We've had a lot of fun with the trailer and wouldn't trade for anything (almost). Now that he is on his own he still tags along and brings a friend or two. So think of the trailer as your portable house for several years.

Do you think that not having the bunk house would have been a disadvantage?
Not really. It just made it easier for the kids to talk one above the other and not wake us up. Also the bath was at their end of the trailer, kids need the bathroom late at night for some odd reason.
Also he used it(second bunk) when he didn't have a friend along to put his stuff on.

My thoughts with the bunk house was that you don't have to wory about the couch and table, and if I want to I can get up in the morning and not wake everyone up.
I am in the process of buying a laredo 29rl 5'er. We pretty much only have my 14yo left that goes camping with us and we opted not to get a bunkhouse. I just think its a waste of space and since kids can sleep anywhere we opted for the pullout couch. Besides when we do have 3-4 kids then we have more spacefor everyone to sit and lounge on those rainy days. When we camp it is family time so one up all up. JMO. I find out tomorrow if the 5'er will fit in the back.
