5.0 HO Upper Intake Bolt

I'm sort of in the right place for this question.

I have replaced the SO upper intake on an 88 Cougar with an HO upper intake from a mid 90s 5.0 Mustang. The problem that I encountered was the 2 longer uuper intake bolts need to be a bit longer. They bite, but at 6" they still need to be at least 6.25". I got what was supposed to be the longer bolts from Ford Racing (M6002A50) but they ended up being the same length (6"). I have been unable to find any locally that will fit the intake that are over 6".

Any idas?

Well, I know that longer ones come with a phenolic spacer.
Did you go to the 94-95 HO intake with the elbow in it?

Not sure what you mean by an elbow. This is the two-piece upper/lower intake manifold. The HO allows for a larger throttle body and has the phenolic spacer. I just can't understand why replacement bolts are impossible to find.

The spacer came with longer than stock bolts. They are just not a common size I guess. Some place like Fastenel should have them if there is one in your area.
You could do without the spacer. I didn't see any real benefit from mine when I installed it. Then the stock bolts will work. It's not factory, there was no spacer.

You must have a pre-94. The 94-95 used a T-Bird/Cougar type intake that was flatter and the throttlebody sat at about a 45 degree angle. Not 90 degrees like you original one.

Must have the pre-94. It looks just like the stock upper intake but is bored larger for the throttle body. The spacer is supposed to help the air stay cooler. Since I have gone to the trouble of removing the air box and running my air intake to outside the engine compartment through the fender well I'll leave it. Can't believe how much better this thing runs with the duals w/Flowmasters and the larger intake/throttle body. It's like a new car. It's an 88 Cougar with 50K original miles that was originally owned by an elderly lady. Honest!

Mine draws air from under the front of the car. If you still have the EGR and the coolant lines to the block still hooked up, it will get heated some there anyway.
We got a 90 Mark VII like that a couple of years ago. It just turned over 85,000 and drives like new. Even the air bags hold air. It had just under 79,000 when we got it at a V.O.A. auction for next to nothing. The lady said that her husband couldn't drive anymore so they donated it.
