Hey everyone I have a question, mainly for the techs but will take input from anyone who's dealt with this problem....
I had that "wonderful voluntary recall" done on my 04 EC Longbed 4x4 done last week. Picked it up from the dealer and was extremely happy with it. First light I started up from I had the tires spinning through 1st into 2nd...(Don't think the Chevy next to me liked it though)........
The truck ran great until I shut it down and then restarted after lunch...then I had the very distinctive turbo puke...puffs of black smoke, could actually hear the turbo spooling up and down without any change in my foot position on the pedal...so call the dealership and after 2 nights of work take it back...of course it hadn't done it since then...but truck had been started up and driven about 50 miles then shut down again...talked to the tech who'd done my job and said it might take some time for the truck to relearn where the vanes needed to be open and such...so I left..and no sooner did I leave than it started puking again...
It only seems to do it when it's been run for a while then shut down and restarted...won't do it from a cold start which makes no sense to me..and it seems to be getting worse everytime it does it...I know our trucks are notorious for bad turbos...and since I've got 83000 miles I figured I'd have the recall done in case the turbo was starting to go...I could get it fixed with only a deductible instead of having to pay full shot....
Does this sound like a turbo issue??? and if so how can I get the tech to understand it...rather than getting the response that the truck needs to relearn??
Thanks everyone...
oh, and other than an AFE stage 2, the truck is stock...
EGR has already been replaced... going back to shop tomorrow to have someone go for a test ride with me driving so that we can see if they can find out what's wrong and see what it's doing...not sure if it'll be the diesel tech or someone else from service but I'm hoping they'll at least have something they can plug in and see if it's throwing a code when it's happening....Will post another update tomorrow after the trip to the dealer...
Had the truck at the shop this morning...Had the tech go for a test drive with me....didn't even need to go half a mile and he said without a doubt, turbo is shot and needs replacing...it was spooling up and down with steady pressure on throttle, and would spit and sputter...also would almost growl with a quick let off on the pedal...he actually said reading on here was a good thing...gave me the right ideas on what I should be asking about when the truck acted up....so thank you to everyone here at FTE....will continue to let everyone know how I make out...Truck goes in Monday...will get it back tuesday...seems my steering gear is going out as well...Oh well...it's still one bad *** truck...
