aux. gauges

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-Nov-01 AT 05:30 PM (EST)]I have an 86 bronco when i bought it it had a set of aux gauges in it but only the temp gauge hooked-up. was wondering how to hook-up the amp gauge.

Is it amp or volts? If it is volt run a wire to the alternator to get the reading of what the alternator is putting out. I'm not sure about getting the amperage, i would imagine that it is real similar.
