I have 01 supercrew 5.4 72k auto 3.55 grears and i tow a dutchman 30' camper which weights about 6500 lbs. Between the weight of the camper and all the stuff that goes with us I need a little more power.
I was wondering programmer or anything else you guys have to offer. What is a good brand? Easy to do?
To change the gears? I'm not sure. You can figure probably 400 to 500 bucks for the gears and install kits, plus whatever labor it takes to have them installed properly.
The front differential uses an 8.8 reverse cut gear set. Fordracingparts.com shows some for the front and rear.
EDIT:, I looked them up @ www.nationaldrivetrain.com.
For 4.10 gears for the IFS front 8.8 $167.95
For 4.10 gears for 9.75 rearend 184.95
Both come with free install kit.
Out the door shipped to your house it would be $375.90.
You would have to check with a local shop to see about installation pricing.
Yep I second that 4.10 gears with your truck stock should tote the note, motive gears is good, My local guru gear shop recommends the master install kits if you plan on keeping the truck there not much more, and also tells me a 4.10 gear with the 5.4L should be the ticket for pulling heavy loads.I;ll sooner or later install a set of 4.10 gears depends on how the truck pulls with the superchips performance tune...I mentioned the 4.56 gears with my 35" tires he snickered and ask me what I wanted to tear up next and spend on gas, you might want to get reccomendations from a good shop that has a good reputation..As for a tuner I love the 1715 superchip 93 octane performance tune, running the 35" tires everyone thats been in my truck dont think I need to regear, they say I have plenty of power.I have;nt tried the towing tune, I plan to in 2 weeks pulling a 6x12 enclosed trailer up into the NC mountains..

Thanks, Gears are a little to much work, cash and time. Liquid let me know on that trip to the mountains towing. I was actually thinking if that same programmer.
