I've gone through a lot of different makes and models of shocks. Bilsteins are on the X now and wil be going on it when they wear out...
I like the Monroe's also, but the Bilsteins are the best IMO. They do cost a little more - but as the old saying goes - you get what you pay for. I'll be getting them as replacements for all of my vehicles when they are needed...
I believe Bilsteins have a lifetime warranty. If they wear out they will replace them for freee.

I thought so also but wasn't 100% sure. They are worth it even if I had to buy another set. With the limited number of miles I drive the X anymore, it will be a while before I burn this set out anyway.
I don't know, but its back there, and they have a replacement for it. I really don't know what it does--there must be some side thrust there somewhere that needs to be dampened.
Bilsteins are the way to go. I have them on everything I own except my little ST pre-runner project. Soon when my budget allows, I will be installing the Camburg dual shock system using nothing but Bilsteins. The Bilsteins from what I hear are the perfect finishing touch to my high speed hyjinx desert pre-funner project!
Update: 6 years ago when I put the Bilsteins on my truck she had 209000kms today she has just over 310k. Not much life left in her but the shocks are still great. I'm glad I put them in and no I never changed the little extra one just the 4 main. lol I'd hate to see what it looks like because I think its stock... 2000 Eddie Bauer 4.0L
I've been reading about one guy who has done 480k and has just had problems with the timing chain and another who has done 500k so there's hope for you.
Just keep the oil changes up.
I think the 5th shock performs a similar function to a panhard rod.
I just Googled the Camburg dual shock system, interesting. Probably a bit hard core for me.
I was thinking of adding an extra shock to the standard air shocks on my LTD.
