I just noticed this the other day....it's like it happened all of a sudden.
Whether I am at a dead stop or driving at any speed when I press on the accelerator the engine starts to rev up before the Bronco starts to accelerate. And when it does start to go it is very under-powered. Other than that it seems to shift OK.
It will go highway speeds, it just takes a while to get up there. There is no transmission leak, but I did notice that my torqu-converter is starting to leak a little bit. My transmission fluid is kind of brown and I don't know the last time the fluid was changed...if it ever has been.
A couple questions:
- does this sound like a tranny problem?
- if so, will dropping the pan and changing the fluid and gasket do any good? Or is it too late for that?
- will I do more damage if I continue to drive it like this?
You could have some gunk buildup in the filter, and changing the tranny fluid and filter would solve that. It may also be your torque converter, especially if it is starting to leak. With so many miles, I would recommend taking it to a shop and having them flush the tranny out and change the fluid and filter. They will also take a look and can tell you if there is anything else that may be bad.
Sounds like torque converter to me. Given the time and labor to replace the t/c, might as well rebuild the whole thing. Fortunately, C6 rebuild ain't too bad and you can do it yourself.
HELP...
I have a 95 bronco and it has an E40D tranny, i think. Well it has now begun making loud whining noises and over power the sound of my tires, which are loud. I have not changed the fluid in it for fear there was shavings in it it might need to keep lubricated. And i was told that too. It isnt shifting to hard, just a little more than normal hardly noticiable. Any idea what this could be? Thanks
Gary
Thanks for the direction.....it will be a weekend project for sure.
I also noticed that my gear shift lever has a little play in it (it doesn't line up exactly on the PRND12 console) could my problems be caused by some sort of linkage? Any reason my transfer case could be contributing to my lack of power and slippage...my transfer case has a leak. I know I have a Borg transfer case...any way to tell which one?
I'm trying to track down all possibilities before letting the tranny people have their way with me.
If you transmission indicator is off, there is an adjustment screw just under the dash. You turn the little adjuster until the indicator is lined up. The indicator is controlled by a small cord, with the adjuster screw on it. I believe that they start to stretch and move the indicator out of line.
As for the transfer case, it shouldn't cause your problem unless it has something broken in it binging the drivetrain. Mine used to leak at the rear seal until I replaced the seal.
U almost surely have a BW1356 case. IIRC mine has a gold tag somewhere near the rear output that actually has "1356" stamped into it. Not likely the t-case would cause slippage, tho.
