i cant get over the damage. It sure sucks to have to have all of this electronic crap on the truck. the idm from the dealer was 600 bones and to replace the uvc was 275.
You took it to the dealer? That is why you can't get over the damage. It costs about $55 for a valve cover gasket, and $45 for the UVC hareness under the valve cover. What did they say was wrong with the truck to facilitate replacing the IDM and the UVC? Maybe just a loose connection under there?
Kris, you haven't left for Smokin' yet?
Guthrie what Kris is saying is probably true.
You'll get a p1316 IDM error code for just a loose connection under the VC and no code for an open in the circuit to the injector itself. (Personal experience)
The reason that I knew where to look was I had driven the truck in to check the torque on the rocker arm pedastals and it ran perfect when I drove it in. When the job was all done, I started the truck and it had a dead miss with only the p1316 code, no others at all. I knew what I had only been in the VC, nowhere else, so I knew where to look despite what the code said. It was #1 injector. My clumsy attempts at getting the VC back on knocked the plug off of the injector and it was just laying there.
It was frustrating, but I had to pull the driver's side just to be sure.
they asid that the number one wasnt firing due to the harness and didnt really tell me what was wrong with the harness. then on the test drive he said the idm was cutting power to one side of the engine. didnt really say what was wrong with the idm either. i had better ask some questions before paying for all of this come monday.
The connector on the valve cover gaskets, on the outside, can cut power to one side of the engine alltogether if the one connector is loose or dislodged. I think the IDM controls the injectors all individually and if i am not mistaken, cannot cut out one side at a time.
