What transmission?

I was wondering what transmission I have in my truck. I have a 2000 F-150 w/ 4.6L V8, Extended Cab, sport 4x4. Thanks!

You most likely have a 4R70W.

My Haynes manual shows 2 different transmissions for this truck, one is a 4R70W and the other is a E40D. Also shows a difference in transmission fluid and I'm sure a difference in transmission filter and gasket. I'm wanting to replace the filter within the next week or so.

If you check out the VIN coder link posted above in the Articles/Specs tab, you can type in your VIN and it will tell you what you have.

Oops, it doesn't but your tranny code on your driver side door will.

U=4R70W

E=E4OD

Info is here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/...ers_Guide.html

Is there another way? I don't have a vehicle sticker on my door. The previous owner removed it for some reason. BTW does anyone know if I can go to the dealership and get a new sticker put on?

Your truck has been hit on the left side. There is no reason to remove the label unless it was hit. Even if it was hit and a new door put on, a good body shop would have transferred the label to the new door. It would not look stock but it would be there. The next option is to get underneath the truck and measure the pan as mentioned in the link above.

I think there is a difference in how many pan bolts. Also if you look on the passenger side of the tranny it will have a sticker with a #. It will have 7000 in it. Copy the # down and post it on the forum. Somebody will tell you what it is.
FWIW I think ford used the smaller tranny with the smaller engine.

Does the dipstick say Mercron V ? If so, then it is a 4R70W.

My '97's 4R70W just says MERCON. Did they change the fluid requirement between '97 and '00?

Judging by those pictures and looking at the new gasket that I purchased, I guess I have the E40D/4R100. But I will get under the truck and look at it for a sticker and the number and post it on here later. And I didn't know it would list the fluid type on the dipstick, I'll definitely check that too.

I just ran outside to check and my dipstick says Mercon V. So that would give me the 4R70W transmission. Thanks for the help guys! Much appreciated.

Good deal. I've never seen a 4R100 behind a 4.6L.
