Tips/tricks for braided hose

I have some billet fuel rails, but I want to install it differently. I have ordered $400 worth of Russel braided hose, fittings and y blocks. Anyone have anytips on building the hoses? I have full flow swivel fitting coming in and feet of 6 and 8 AN.

been a long time, had all russel on one of my lopars. I think you put the outer nut on the hose then rap the hose real tight with electrical tape, about 1.5 inch area, then cut it in the middle of the wraped area with a hack saw with a fine blade, then lube the center fitting and shove it in the hose until you can thread the outer nut on and tighten it up, snug but not to tight. Make sure your wrenches are clean and fit the nuts well, even if you have to use adj. wrench so not to mar. up the fittings.

Good advice from bronco521. I too use the 3" wheel method with duct tape wrapped as tight as I can get it.

I think I have the build down, I did it once a few years ago. Any tips on bends, placement or securing the hoses?

well i try to make as gradual bend as possible.if the bend is near a fitting i try to make the majority of it with a 90 or 45 deg fitting.

as far as securing the hoses,i just make sure they are supported enough along the frame that they aren't bobbing up and down much,if possible.

When maiking up hoses, after cutting, I like to place the hose and fitting next to each other, marking on the hose how far inside the fitting the hose should travel.

Once you start assembling the hose and fitting, it's a visual reference to make sure you haven't pushed any hose out while tightening the assembly.

I also use Aeroquip fittings almost exclusively because their fittings swivel. It relieves the anxiety of having to index the hose fittings correctly when using angled fitting.

To stabilize the hoses after installation, I use Adell clamps.

Finally, if the steel braided hoses are gonna see a harsh environment where fine grit can penetrate the steel braid, you might consider using clear heat shrink to seal the outer shell of the hose. I have seen grit act as sand paper when it gets between the steel braide and inner hose.

Now for a real question, I have the aeroquip vise jaws. I can't remember If I put hose end in the jaws or the adapter end in. Anyone know the easiest way?

A die grinder with a thin wheel works well. It you can find a wood dowel to stick in the hose before cutting it works even better. Be SURE to flush out the hose before assemble!

I am very nearly read to do this. I have all of the adapters, hose and hose ends in and my throttle body arrived today. So All I really have left for prep is build a bracket for the regulator, fuel block and pressure guage. I have a full saturady ahead of me.
