What's Bigger???

Help me out here guys; I am doing a Physics paper and the topic is about engines. I understand the main differences between Diesels and Gasoline engines. But which ones is actually bigger? The PSD or the V-10? If I had either one of them, I could look to the other person and say my engine is bigger then yours. I hope I explained myself properly. This will be a big help in my Paper.

P.S. I am not trying to start a war here!

Thanks in Advance
Michael

V10 = 6.8L (415 cubic inch)
V8 PSD = 6.0L (366 cubic inch)

Conclusion:
V10 is larger based on cubic inches.

2008 V10 = 6.8 liter = 415 cid
2008 6.4 PSD = 6.4 liter = 390 cid

v10 is still bigger

7.3 = 444 cid
6.9 = 421 cid (never a PSD version, but bigger cid wise)

The 7.3L diesel was "biggest" for only 4 years- 1999 through 2003. Prior to 1999, Ford offered a 460 CID (7.5L) gasoline engine.

A few responses above are relevant -----BUT if you are really doing a physics paper, they don't realy answer the question...and you failed to define what "bigger" means...the diesel is bigger if weight is the standard... the diesel is bigger if Torque is the standard.... the gas motor is bigger if fuel consumption is the standard

But none of those answers, nor the cubic inch ones, really give you a physics related answer that is entirely correct

In internal combustion motors there are many ways to describe "Bigger" but the standard consumer info way is by Liters, or Cubic Inches, of DISPLACEMENT.

But this realy only is relevant within "family of motors". Spark ignition gasoline motors can be relativly compared for "Biggness" by cubic inches of displacment because generally, the more displacement the physically bigger the motor is and this suggests a more powerful motor...but even that is not ALWAYS true because of "volumetric effeciency".

Also, in compression ignition diesel motors it can be an even bigger mistake to assume more cubic inches is always "bigger" or has more power. There are a LOT if PHYSICS variables.

I suggest a google or "ask dot com" search,or a trip to "about dot com" and learn how a 4 stroke internal combustion motor works and creates rotational force or power from explosive heat power

Yes, but what a slug the 460 was towards the end

I agree with that. My 88 460 (first year for EFI ) was a dog, a very thirsty dog and that is why my 95 PSD seemed so great. Compared to the 88 460 it was supercalifragilisticexpyaladotious................ ..with apologies to Mary Poppins.
