This is true, there's scietist on both sides of the issue, it just seems someone is pushing hard an agenda here. Those who believe the earths climate tends to cycle as it allways has are hushed up or dismissed. There is deffinately an agenda being pushed and I think there is more to it than we even know. I believe Iran having the bomb is more scarey than global warming as a nuclear explosion will for sure cause a climate change as will an astriod hitting the earth. They sure try and keep people scareed about the future. I put my trust into my Savior, my time on earth is a spec compared to all of eternity. He's in control of all things, the Alpha and Omega.
GLOBAL WARMING? I live in Tucson, AZ and for 2 out of 5 years now it has SNOWED around Easter. AS U can tell I think its B.S. also Just like KILLER BEES Its all for grant MONEY!
Mentality!?! Actually it's reality! Over two thousand scientists from various country's have come to a consensus that our worlds climate "is" changing for the worst. Another words, the party's over! It's now past due time to wake up and to quit hitting the snooze button even though it's possibly too late.
You mean those UN - Politicial scientist's that some have later signed off of that before the announcement.
That phony science they are spewing has been shown to be Wrong.
I would bet that they ALL Fly somewhere.
Do some research by Renowned geological scientists and learn that most of this crap right now is..... Crap or is all POLITICAL.
Not to mention this whole carbon offset crap ( btw, Al Gore owns that company, can we say money grab ?) They want everyone else to live earth friendly, but when it comes to themselves, they refuse to and make up things like carbon offsets so they feel better about it..
I have a question about that whole carbon offset thing, say I live well under my normal carbon footprint and have leftover carbon offsets. Then along comes Al Gore Mr Limousine Liberal and I have to go everywhere in a private jet and buys up my leftovers, is there really any savings going on ? I thought the whole point would be that there were this amazing overabundance of carbon offsets that would never get used, showing the entire planet how friendly we are and environmentally conscious.
Oh wait,, they can't make any money off actual savings,,, silly me for thinking that.
It is just another scare thing. The Government, and the Media, always have something negative to say about our lives. If it is not global warming, it is smoking, or everyone in the US is overweight. They just create one crisis after another. I never read anything good, it is always something. It gets tiring after awhile.
People should be more interested in firsthand things like:
River systems
Insuring a Clean Water Supply
Recycling and Reclamation sites (The Dump)
Planting Trees
Over-Population
Littering
Illegal Dumping
I couldn't agree more Dennis.
But I also don't agree with those people who propose that North Americans shouldn't give a damn about emissions just because other countries don't. As far as I know, I inhale the air that's directly in front of me, not the air that's in China.

Since GM thinks they can't make a powerful car with RWD, I suppose they shouldn't try, and should concentrate on taking some weight out of there fleet and cutting power to drive mpg up.
Meanwhile, BMW and Mercedes, amongst others, will continue to make RWD performance sedans if you really want one. And the interiors won't look like they bought them at Walmart....
I have one question- Why does America have to stop living the way we do and save the world, but no one else does?
Because if we don't it will never get started, if you see a crime in progress you will not act until someone else does...hum...believe me this is no different.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a clean enviroment. However like so many things, it is turning into a money making scheme, like buying carbon offsets, or gas guzzler tax. Neither of these will do one thing to clean up the enviroment, but will put money in someones pocket. I have a life time love affair with the combustion engine, at the same time I would welcome clean fuel tech and it can be done. Instead of taxing gas guzzlers, why don't they just make them illegal and be done with it. Now that ford has the duratec I-4, why don't they bring back the 4 cylinder 4x4 ranger instead of pushing the v6's, or back a turbo charged 2.3 fusion instead of a v6? I'm not picking on ford, just using them for an example. I know it's customer demand, but you can only buy whats available. Trucks should be the exception, as people use trucks for real work, on the farm, construction and so on.
It's a fact, and has been proven, that the warming cycles of our planet are preceded by increasing co2 levels in the atmosphere. Scientists now know, from research that we now have much more co2 in our atmosphere than has been in the past 500,000 years. It started its rise at the beginning of the our industrial revolution. Add to the mix the many other "man-made" chemicals and particles that are not natural that we spew upwards and downwards, and we have us wicked soup brewing.
Add to that the massive burning and clearing of our Earth's rainforests (>o2). The world's population well over 6 billion with no end in sight. The massive destruction to gain access to what's left of our dwindling non-renewable resources. Oil spills, chemical spills, chemical fires, etc. etc. on a global scale. Weather patterns changing with many records being broken yearly. Water supply's on the verge of collapse, etc., etc.,and one "should" easily see that we're in no man's land on the historical time table!
With the co2 levels substantially higher than ever before in researched and recorded history, more people than ever before and all the additional pollution that goes with it, and with more country's following the American dream and industrializing, all's well and we'll be just fine!?! I don't buy it!
With all the data and research I've read, and seen, it seems awful obvious to me that "man" made a series of big ole mistakes, and many are denying that any mistakes have been made or are being made. I've noticed that most of these folks who are in denial help run the show AND seem to live fairly well. Old habits, right or wrong, die hard!
I'm sure many of us would just hate to give up some of our fat and gluttoneous ways for the good of all of mankind. So, what's new!
We've been tracking CO2 emissions for 500,000 years now?...........
And you want to talk deforestation?............Look at a comparison map between 1900 and today reference forest cover in the U.S...........The U.S. in 1900 looked like a desert compared to today...........And going in line with that........there were about 250,000 whitetail deer in the U.S. in 1900, versus 25-million to 30-million today...........
But HERE'S the funny, ridiculous thing about over-reaction......The OP started this thread because GM was having to delay building a powerful RWD car because of environmentalist regs.......When I asked him to expand on that, it was because of an engineering issue related to POSSIBLY not being able to comply with new AND FUTURE emissions standards..........Pretty friggin' minor if you ask me (but then again....no one asked me)..........This explanation, and the fact that the OP basically thinks that environmentalists are by and large kooks is met with a litany of every environmental fear and disaster (real and/or perceived).....It was like he was proposing a return to the smokestack economy of the 40s and 50s and was proposing that all home heating and cooking be run on coal!......
NO ONE here wants dirty water and a slash-and-burn environment and unhealthy air.........and we're the only country that seems to be doing the right things to prevent those situations........But what do we get?......"Ooooh, the rich, fat, opulent, energy devouring Americans are destroying the world!......
