I got the sirius sportster4 unit, but unfortunately the sirius mounting devices that come with the car kit are crap. I'm looking to make something myself, but was wondering how other people have mounted their plug and play receivers. Any pics would be appreciated. This is going in a 95 Bronco.
I haven't done that, but I have done several Edge attitudes. Velco and closed cell foam are your friends. If you need to space the device out of a hole, bend up a peice of steel and screw it down. The foam will close up any gaps and the velco allows solid mounting and removal.
well i've got something i'm working on now, however, i seemed to have lost the screws that go into the docking station, so i'm screwed till i find them. I'll try to post a picture when I get done.
You could try this Bronco (full-size) 1992-1996 (FO-74-92) Description
but it looks like it's going to block your heater controls. I bought the mount for my truck and love it, although it dosen't block anything.
yeah, I had seen that one, but didn't like that it blocked the A/C control. So i'm trying to make something similar but that will bend the other way. And then at least I'll have cold air blowing on it to try and keep it cool.
I know back at the install bay we use Sheets of black Plastic and use a heat gun to bend it anyway we please. Makes a nice, finished looking bracket for you to mount where you please. Theres also a company call Bracketron we use, they often have very nice mounts simliar to the one you saw but maybe have different mounting locations?
Man, I didn't even think of trying to mold plastic with a heat gun. I'm using a piece of sheet metal that I spray painted flat black. Not the easiest to work with. Thanks for the info on bracketron. I looked them up but I didn't see any for a bronco and the F-150s only went back to 1997.
I personally wouldnt have put it in front of that vent, but you definately did a very clean install, do you have any pics of the bracketry you fabbed up? Good looking install bro.
Thanks, I'll try and get some pics some time this week or this weekend. It's nothing fancy, but it doesn't show that much and does the job. I would have preferred to have it mounted up higher where i wouldn't have to look down much to see it, but this was the place I could put it close to me and without drilling any holes. It doesn't cover the air vent completely so i can still adjust it and i read that these units run hot so it will at least keep it cool in the summer, not that i even use the A/C that much anyway.
Don't have any pics, but I mounted mine where the headliner meets the windshield. The front edge of the docking station slid under the plastic trim and then two large diameter (#14, I believe), but relatively short, sheet metal screws were used to attach the other end of the docking station base to the fiberboard headliner.
Hasn't budged in over 2 years.
So the unit sits up and above the rear view mirror.
Dang- I really need to get a digital camera.
